New Delhi, Jan 7 (PTI)
Delhiites woke up to a cold morning on Monday with the minimum temperature settling at 7.1 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year.

The weatherman said visibility was recorded at 300 metres at the Safdarjung observatory, while at 8.30 am, it was 50 metres.

"The skies will remain clear and the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 19 degrees Celsius," an official of the MeT department said.

The humidity level recorded at 8.30 am was 100 per cent, he added.

According to the railways, 13 trains were running late due to fog, including the Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express (late by four hours) and the Garib Rath Express which was scheduled to arrive in Delhi three hours late.

Fog disrupted the flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport as one of the runways had to be shut down from 9 am to 10 am due to low visibility.

"Between 0900 hrs and 1000 hrs, the RVR (runway visual range) on RWY 29 saw a sharp decline. The flight departures continued from RWY 28," said a source.

The runway number 29 started operating normally post 10 am. The minimum runway visibility required for take-off is 125 metres.

On Sunday, the minimum temperature in the national capital had settled at 8.6 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature recorded was 19.6 degrees Celsius.
